I have a 39 Master 85 that has sat since 1962 (my wife's grandfather's). I've rebuilt the alternator and was wondering if I should replace the voltage regulator. It seems I've seen numbers for two different ones? What is the correct identification and can they be sourced through NAPA and sorts? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all! Regmudd

I am guessing you meant the "generator" and if it were mine and the regulator was working OK I would not touch it.

....I can`t help with numbers, but it`s easy enough to fire it up and watch the gauge inside and go from there. The voltage regs. are easily accessable for the 6 volt systems if needed

The original version of the regulator had the number 1118203. In 1949 the number changed to 1118309. The unit was the same. You will see either 203 or 309 stamped to tne base of the regulator next to the screw that holds it to the firewall. This was the only regulator used on a 1939 unless it was up-graded to a 2 brush generator at one time which was fairly common. IF IT HAS A LATER GENERATOR/REGULATOR THE NUMBER WTLL BE STAMPED IN THE SAME AREA
The above numbers are true only if the unit is a Delco-Remy.
