Hi, I need help identifying a vintage Chevy 4cyl engine & body we have on our property. I have pictures but not sure how to post them. It's a 4 door. I have a few numbers off the motor- one is 4296158 on a plate below intake, then there is 348532 with the Chevy sign under it. Under the Chevy sign is what looks like D 5 8. Any help would be great!!
Thanks, Sonja

I believe the d 5 8 is April 5th of 1928. I'm sure some of the 4 cyl experts will shed more light on the numbers you posted.

Photo of my 1928 Block I just pulled out, same number as yours. I am a novice at this but the stamped number above is the block production number (so no 2 are the same) If the head has the same number then you have a matched head and block telling you the head was never replaced...sort of rare i think.

Didier, I believe the bottom casting numbers in your picture say that the engine was cast on December (L) 31, 1927 (7). This means that your's is an early-1928 engine.

Cheers, Dean
