Fall weather in Southern Ontario is often a gamble, and so is backing out of the driveway in my sometimes reliable 1950 convertible! Paul and Maggie Rozon decided to continue that theme when they planned our annual Fall Tour this year. The idea was a "Casino Run", featuring breakfast and slots at Flamboro Raceway, lunch and more slots at Grand River raceway in Elora, and finishing with more one armed bandits at Mohawk Raceway in Milton.

Jane and I were awake at 6:50am for a 7:35 departure for Flamboro. We left Nana in charge of Abby and the kitties, and hit the road after a stop for fuel and coffee. There was frost on the ground, and the temperature was about 2C. (35F?). Friday night I hooked the heater back up, and we kept the window zipped up as well.

We arrived at Flamboro Downs at about 9:20 and had breakfast with Paul & Maggie, and George & Carol Worron. Shortly after we were joined by Don & Judy Lampkin, and Les & Bev Gajdacs. It was going to be a small group as it is Canada's Thanksgiving Day weekend. Into the Casino we headed! We signed up for "Players Cards" which came with a complimentary $10 on them. My 10 bucks was gone in 15 minutes, and Jane came out ahead $22 an hour later. At least I knew who was buying my lunch! Paul ("1931roadster" here on chat) didn't tell me how he did. He was still driving his car as we left, so I assume he couldn't find a Blackjack table!

At 11:00 we rounded everyone up, and hit the backroads. Paul led, and set out in a round-about way to Elora. Paul's Garmin often makes all of the decisions for him, and it didn't disappoint today. All of the roads were traffic free, paved, scenic, and starting to show beautiful fall colours! His additional tour of every single 4way stop (some of them from multiple directions) in the city of Cambridge was also… ah…. unexpected! As Paul says "It's a scenic tour!!"

We arrived in Elora around 12:40pm. Lunch at the race track hit the spot, then it was into the slots for more one armed bandits. While the rest of the group were trying to earn enough to cover their lunch costs, Jane and I threw the top down and headed into the village to shop on Mill Street. It's a beautiful town. I was raised about 10 minutes away, and always enjoy showing Jane around my old stomping grounds. We headed back to the Casino, and rejoined the car show in the parking lot…

Off we headed through my hometown of Fergus, and then on towards Milton. The temperature was up to about 13C, so it was a little cool with the top down. We hit Milton around 4pm, and went to the casino. The big winner this time was Carol Worron, who robbed a one armed bandit of $180!!

Supper was at the Swiss Chalet. Topics of discussion were "Modifieds in the VCCA" and "International Dues". We have a great group that is going to find our way through these tumultuous times. Dinner wrapped up at 630pm, and it was time to test the old 6 volt system on the way home. We ran away from a beautiful sunset as we headed east, and arrived home in the dark at 7:45pm. We had a footrace to the door to see who could hug Abby first. I think my wife tried to push me into the basement. She won the hug anyway...

A big "Thank you! ok " to my friends Paul & Maggie for planning another spectacular tour! We're looking forward to the 2015 touring season now!
