I strongly urge you to reconsider your idea to move the battery to the trunk. As a safety concern it is not wise to charge a lead acid battery in a closed area. Also, an acid spill in the trunk can do damage to the trunk area. I don't know your reason to move the battery, but reconsider.

If you insist, a heavy battery cable from the starter to the battery would be required and a connection to the frame for the ground would be suggested.

The closer to the starter the better. I would check with a good electrical shop to determine the correct size cable needed and also use a glass mat sealed battery. You cable should probably be at least a 2/0-4/0.

I believe Ray's advise is in your best interests...It can also ruin what ever you store in the trunk, too...I have a vehicle that's designed to have the battery in the trunk, but it has a "weep" tube attached that passes thru the floor to the outside...And I still get some corrosion...

I have mounted batteries mounted in the trunk in my drag racing days. I always used a marine battery box and mounted in the right rear of the trunk. Make sure to use a plate for the bottom side of the trunk where the bolts go thru so the bolts can't pull thru the sheet metal. Make sure to install a vent hose out the bottom. I have always used 2/0 cables. The ground cable should be mounted to the frame, the positive goes to the starter. Make sure to install a smaller ground strap from the frame to the body.

I would not move the battery away from its original position and especially further away from the starter. I haqve seen that many problems caused by the distance apart from the workmanship in the process.

You could use the 2/0 for the ground from the battery to the frame and also use it for the engine to frame ground. For the body ground you don't need the large cable. If you could find a small braided cable that would work just fine. Many of the GM cars used those straps from the firewall to the engine.
