Do I need a reversing switch on my 48-216??I thought I either read or was told I did not-chef- chevy

You either need the switch or you must modify the distributor/wiring.

Or, replace the distributor.

If you have an early '48 it came with a reversing switch-a late '48 did not have it.The early '48 used what we called curved points-the stationary arm had a curve in it-the late has a straight arm.The early style curved points fit a 1941- early '48--the late also fit 1949 and up as well as 1933-40.
