How fast do you drive your 1948 Chevrolet (stock) car on the Interstate highway/ Do they cruise at 65 MPH?
Thanks,

If the engine is in "perfect" condition they will cruise at 65 MPH...This means rod and main bearings adjusted correctly, oil pan lines clean and properly aimed.60 MPH would be called an extra safe speed if it has a stock 4.11 axle ratio. (60 MPH=about 3100 RPM).3.70 ratio from a ''53-'54 stick or 3.54 from a '50-'54 Power Glide will make 65 an easy speed. This is refering to a constant speed for long distances.

I cruise in the slow lane in my '48 Fleetmaster at 50 - 55 mph. If I go faster than that, the old 216 is wound pretty tight.

On the local highways, I thought people would be honking their horns and flipping me off for driving too slow. But I always seem to just get a friendly beep and wave or a thumbs up from passing drivers (unusual for the Washington DC area).

What becomes of the day for those who rage against it?
