Is there a source where I can find out how many Chevrolets were built for 1958 and specically how many Impalas? I've heard that this info was destroyed and not available.
Is there a website to track ownership of my '58? Carfax does not go back that far.

George Dammonn's book "Sixty Years of Chevrolet" quotes some rough numbers. I'm not sure how accurate they are, as the book has quite a few errors. He states that 60 000 Impala convertibles were built, and 175 000 2 dr hardtops. It doesn't seperate Belair from Impala in the hardtops.
Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet. 1953 Belair Convertible 1951 2dr Deluxe Sedan 2015 GMC SLE 4X4

According to Hemmings forum in 2003, there were 1,216,597 Chevrolets built in 1958. 142,592 Sport coupes and 55,989 convertibles. GM didn't destroy the numbers in 58, they just never kept them. Some Chevy assembly plant numbers are available from newspaper archives in the city where the plant is located.

The 142,592 number is for Impala Sport Coupes. There were 50,941 Belair Sport Coupes built. Those are official numbers from Chevrolet. Verne

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. When I go to a car show, I've been asked many times how many impalas were built. I now have an answer. Thanks again.

I have no idea why those numbers differ so much. Maybe they were just counting V8s or 6cyl models. My info from Chevrolet is a combination of the 1700 and 1800 series. The numbers I posted are for ALL Belair Spt Cpes and ALL Impala Spt Cpes. There is no breakdown between 6cyl or V8 models. The convertible number agrees with my documents. Verne PS: I also find it odd that they used a round number of exactly 43,000. I highly doubt that a total production number would work out to be that even of a number. What are the chances?

The main reason that the numbers are so far off is that the "75 Years of Chevrolet" is full of errors.
