Anyone have a Delco-Packard parts book that gives the part number for both the positive and negative, spring-ring battery cables for a 1964 Impala SS 327/300HP with no A/C, and a 4-speed transmission? How about the GM numbers also? thx. Billu38

The original Chevy numbers would be:
Neg: 2986165
Pos: 2986171

I can't find the Delco numbers.

Verne, What year was the parts book printed that those part numbers came from, I have the following:
Chevrolet Master Parts Book March 1, 1966
group 2.341 Ground part#2987209 (24" ctr/ctr)
group 2,342 Positive part# 2987249 (53" ctr/ctr)

I do not have any Chevrolet Parts Books from 63 to 66, the numbers I have are higher so it looks like the numbers superseded also the numbers I have listed above the application includes 1965 and 1966 in this 1966 book. Which would be correct for over the counter replacement, but as we know not correct for restoration purposes.

When did GM get rid of the spring ring terminals? I believe they were gone in 1965

John,
I actually took those numbers from a '64 Assembly Manual, so they are the REAL part numbers used on the assembly line. I know a lot of part numbers used on the line were never available through Service Parts though. I have a '64 parts book dated Oct '63 and it did not have the numbers in it for the correct '64 cables (for some reason). The next later book I have is a '68 book, so I'd guess your '66 book would be the closest to being accurate.
My mind stops working very well after '64, so I can't say exactly when the spring ring cables went away.
I'm sure Don Bock would have the Delco-Packard numbers as well as know when the spring rings went away.

Billu,
Seems like the numbers vary, and the only thing that is constant is the 53" ctr/ctr. I learned a lot from looking into this.
