Have a friend who has a 52 Chev Pumper Firetruck and the clutch has gone out of it. He was told by the parts store that it could have a 9.125" or a 10" clutch. How can we determine which without pulling it out now.
Thank in advance for any advice on this.

If it is a 1/2 ton it would have a 9" clutch. A larger truck came with a 10 3/4" clutch. Being a fire truck I am sure it is larger than a 1/2 ton unit.
There was no 10".

i had a 53 chevy fire truck and the clutch disc was 10.5 or 11 inches. senility prevents me from remembering the exact diameter, but i'm certain it wasn't a 9 or 9.5" disc. mike

Well, here we are 2 yrs later and my friend finally got to the clutch project. The disc and cover assembly both appear to be good even though it was slipping. He had adjusted it with the recommended free play but that did not help. Anyway the disc he took out measures 11" and the cover assembly is 9 bolt. Is it possible someone used a 11" disc instead of 10-3/" with the old cover assembly ?? I believe The truck is a 3800 or 3900 series.
thanks

Chevrolet listed a 10 3/4" only. I see no reason why an 11" could not have been installsd. Thats only 1/8" larger.

Should be a 3800 series which is a 1 ton. Kinda small for a Fire Truck. Most Chevrolet Fire Trucks that year are 4400 series 1 1/2 tons, or 6400, to 6500 series 2 tons. Got any pictures of it you can show ?

Spanky; If you furnish your e-mail address here of thru PM I can provide a pic of the truck in question. Doing a pic in the chat site is beyond my expertise.
Thanks for your interest in this matter.

Got the pictures. That's a good looking truck. It's a 6400 series 2 ton.
