When checking my parts bin to gather spare parts for a tour, I came across a condenser for a V8 Ford. Can it be used in a V8 Chevrolet distributor? It's Standard brand - part #FD75. I'm assuming that all condensers do the same thing, and if it can be installed in the distributor, it would work. Correct? I have an attic full of parts, and I hate to continually buy more stuff that eventually ends up in the attic. Thanks, Sid

It should work. Chevrolet changed the capacity of the condenser several times over the years. The same condenser is used from 1934-1974 except 1957-191974 V-8 which had a longer lead.

Thanks Chev Nut. I'll pack it in the trunk with my other spares. Sid

Gee, and no one brought up the reason for the hole on one side of the point contacts...? Take a guess...

The "hole" in the center was supposed to make better use of the entire conatact area for longer point life and better cooling.

Longer point life, for sure...And there's no issue with exact micro farad capacitor size...Better idea all around...Last's a lot longer...
