I have a 58-62 blue flame motor which did not have the right dipstick.
It was far too long, so I am looking for the length of a stock one, so I can trim this one down to suit. What I need is: the length from the "stop" to the tip and the length of the high and low marks.

You can calibrate your dipstick yourself. Drain the oil. Add enough oil to be 1 quart low and mark the stick at that point "Low" or "ADD". Then add the additional quart and mark "Full".

Your owner's manual or your shop manual should give you the capacity of the oil pan. Whatever the capacity is subtract one quart of oil.

I would guess you have a 5 qt capacity. If you have a filter that might differ by a pint or quart depending if it stayed full or drained with the oil. Skipper is right about looking in the owner's manual.

The dip stick tube is 8 7/64" long.....some is in the block.
The distance from the stopper to the full mark is 13 13/16"
From the stopper to the add mark is 14 13/32".
Engine holds 5 Qt. + 1 Qt for the filter if so equipped.

Thanks for the replies, with the right amount of oil she'll be happy now.

Measured , cut and marked the "too long" dipstick to those dimensions and the oil level came up exactly to the Full mark!
Thanks again!
