Last summer while traveling to a VCCA meet my newly rebuilt 1960 235 started to run rough after chasing possibility of timing and fuel issues, had my buddy helped rebuild the carb, but didn't help I put a set of gauges on and confirmed oil pressure and temperature were good. This spring we did a compression test and found 1 -5 at 150 and #6 to be way low,
I took the head off and brought it to the engine builder who told me I had a bad valve guide. Got head back and plan to put back together tomorrow. In researching I've found some who feel gasket should be but in dry and some say to use sealer. Any suggestions? I have Felpro gaskets.

Also noticed some gooey residue in # 3 and 6 and we are not sure what it is? Less than 500 miles since first oil change.

Thanks,

I have always put them on dry. Felpro is a good gasket and they don't call for sealer.

The addition of sealer is usually asking for trouble...I don't even bother with re-torque after a few hundred miles and still have never had any problems...

Thanks for the advice, put head gasket on dry. Compression at all cylinders 150.
