I am in need of a quality chrome plater. My last chrome plater took almost 6 months to finish a simple radio face plate with no pits. In the G&D every month is listed a chrome plater from the Chicago Area. Has anyone had a good response and quality service from this vendor?

I have used Pauls a couple of times before some years back.As a matter of fact the parts I need done were sent there last month. The head and front cover to a guide spot light and the hood front bow tie medallion to my 48..The light has only a little hazing, the medallion has light to medium pitting..Quote $650.I was a bit startled, but I backed out when I was told they would need to drill out the rivets from the light bracket because it would not plate properly, did show they knew their job..They did send the 3 parts back no charge,I was inpressed, but $650,huh,need another bid

While I think Paul's is an excellent plater, I think the two items you described at $650 was excessive. I know Paul's is high and in most cases you get what you pay for... but my goodness!

Well there is plating and then there is plating, I suppose. I don't understand the process of plating to know the difference in good quality plating techniques and the lasting effect to make a judgement call.

I know there used to be a plater at Carlisle that had a lot of re-plated Chevrolet items for sell. I bought a few items that look fantastic when I bought them but the plating did not hold up for very long.

I had the back window for my 41 convertible plated by Paul's. I think it was about $290. They plated both sides (inside and outside). Oh, well.

I used a local plater for most of the rest of the 41 chrome. High as a kite, also. I paid extra for what he calls "show quality." Go figure.

Good luck,
Charlie

Charlie, thanks for your thoughts.I also don't normally look at price 1st but for the 2 small pieces and the spotlight head having no pits I would question the quote being extravigant at the least..I have lightly buffed the light head and it looks better but not perfect as I would like,so will shop around

I've had good luck and reasonable prices as far as chrome plating prices go. They have no web site so you'll have to call or write.

For central California I have used Sherms Custom Plating in Sacramento. I have taken parts to him and mailed him parts with great satisfaction. I have had a few things Concours chromed but found that his normal polished chrome is better than 95% of what you see anywhere. I talk to Art (big guy with a mustache in photos) very knowledgeable and will give you a very accurate estimate. Boyd Coddington used Sherms when he was alive. This place is the most organized and the cleanest chrome shop I have ever seen, something to think about when you are sending someone the last good part you have...

I think Dick Moffett offers chrome plating services as well as parts.
