Bill,

I put the Peking to Paris posting in the General Discussion, with only 23 viewings, and I put it in the 29 to 32 forum which recieved 96 viewings. You choose to lock one posting even though its obvious that some viewers only read the year forums, others may only read the general discussion.

Must everything be so black and white. I was wanting to share a great story about a Chev, plus a history with this site back in 2010, even contacted both drivers for comments and updates, and you feel the need to restrict the exposure.

Is it really that much of an issue?

Ray

It's EXTREMELY important. You must put the post in the GENERAL DISCUSSIONS section even if no one looks at it. I hope you understand this, because no one else does.. Agrin Agrin

You can't post something to your buddies in a yearly forum, they'll just have to hunt it down like the rest of us.. winner

Sorry Bill newangel

My thought-when we get to a fork in the road it's nice to have a sign to point us in the right direction, otherwise we will be wandering aimlessly. The locked thread does just that and is not a dead end.

How is a locked post not a dead end? Are you saying to repost the thread worded differently? A locked post is also a warning. Ask me how I know. blush

I never log out and have my computer set at "Active Topics, Past 24 hours" so when I log in all recent posts come up. That way, you can read any new post no matter where it is posted. Works for me.
I'm thinking we didn't come to a dead end on that certain post as we still have one open on the topic. I can see both sides of the story but this the makes form less cluttered. idea
By the way 1928isgreat, I enjoy the pictures. Keep 'em coming. thanku

Thanks for the comments guys.

I am still waiting to hear from Bill.

I was not setting out to cause trouble, a problem, or ruffle any ones feathers, just plain and simply pass on a great story about a Chev, put it on the Chev site, and give anyone who wants the opportunity to read it.

If I had only posted it on the general discussion forum, about 132 people would not have seen it.

I take having a thread locked personally, regard it as a kick in the butt, and it raises the topic of censorship, and for what.

What was the crime? Duplicating a story about a once in a lifetime adventure in a 1930 Chev.

Guilty as charged.

Ray

Gidday Fellas,

Morning Ray, hope ya don't mind mate..

I just couldn't resist, reminds me of the good ole days when mates could chat amongst themselves and encourage friendly banter and conversation. laugh

Oh and Ray, how dare you try and inform Chevy folk about a remarkable Chevy adventure, that sort of thing is not encouraged here... When will you learn this mate.

Grant, I'm glad to see a post from you too. ;=)

Regarding the posting of a topic under multiple forums, one solution might be:

1. Post a topic in one good primary place (where the banter back and forth will occur)

2. Place posts in other related forums with just a link back to the primary discussion place

Just a thought.
Cheers, Dean

If you don't have options for posting by subject matter, we may as well remove all divisions, and just have one big jumble.

I read every subject matter every day and it is not that big of a deal. If you stay caught up with the action it only takes a few minutes to scan all topics and chose to dwell on those of your liking.

For what it's worth nearly every forum I'm a part of (one in which I'm a moderator) discourage multiple posts so Chat isn't alone in that respect. In general it's frowned on because it's a waste of bandwidth. I understand the issue of one forum not getting as much traffic as another but it's one of the rules we have to live by.

I hate that forum because it all runs under one heading, and you can't filter out the stuff you're not interested in. Clicking active topics on it takes forever to read, because there are so many posts.

Not to be a wise A**.
Why not start a forum for banter and conversation? It seems to be what a lot of folks want. It would bring all the guys together in one place.
I myself would enjoy the conversations and ribbing and joking. That way all the tech talk would be unaffected from the conversations.

Sounds like the general discussion forum. You look forever at unrelated topics that are of no interest to you just to find something that is of interest to you. crazy

The post is able to be viewed in either forum and the response's can only be entered in one which is fine with me as I get to view all the response's in one place. I agree with Ray that some only view certain forums and thus may not have seen it if he had not posted it in the 29-32 forum also. Perhaps a bulletin board in the year forums for listing post in other forums that pertain to those years , but are not technical would help, actually very similar to what Bill did. I view a dead end as having no furthur options, whereas the option to read the article as posted and reply is available, it just requires a slight detour to a singular destination.

Thanks for the varied comments and opinions, and I await Bills thoughts.

There is a message there for all of us, and it just depends on our ability to open our minds a bit.

39 people viewed Peking to Paris on the General Discussion site.

150 on the 29 to 32 Forum.

I am not the sharpest tool on the rack, but its pretty clear to me where the majority of people go to view postings.

Cheers

Ray

Ray,

Just above you comment that you AWAIT BILL's THOUGHTS.

It's obvious he's already given them.

He locked the 29-32 thread and directed you (us) to the Gen'l Discussions thread. Perfectly clear that's "his thoughts."

Here's MY thought.....bed OR bonk

Your choice....
