did the 1960 impala convert 283 have a positive ground or negative ground? mine is positive, if neg ground how do I convert back to neg ground, I am a novice for sure.

All Chevrolets are negative ground.

Thank you.If I switch the battery cables do I need to change the voltage regulator or is it more complicated?

If you have a generator, check this link: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/bulletins/38csn42.htmLook under Voltage Regulator Installation. It has the procedure for "phasing" the regulator and generator. Although it is for an older model, it should work in your case. If you have an altenator, I'm not sure of the procedure. According to information I've seen, it should have a 35 or 40 amp generator but someone could have converted to an altenator. Has the car been ran with the wires reversed?
