Who knows where to look. It could be anywhere. I think he wanted his 37-42 friends to look at his 48 model chevy. That's why it's in the CHATTER forum. ( I think ) monkey

Nice solid looking coupe. I'd love to have it. Agrin

Yes, I already bought it. Yes, I put a note in the 37-42 Forum so my friends from there would know where to look to see pictures of the car. I didn't want to put too much there as this is not a technical thread, ergo, my posting in the chatter forum. Ran into a glitch today. It seems my Colorado is not big enough to pull a car hauler with a car on it, plus my hitch has to be rated at 6000 pounds to pull a dolly. It is only rated at 4000 pounds so tomorrow I will either find a truck to rent or just arrange to have the car hauled to Rochester from Michigan. Beamer

My first thought was, heck, why not hire a transporter...? You can follow it home...smiles

Congratulation on your coupe looks great. Have you looked into a one way U-Haul and trailer you could pull it home with all wheels off the ground just need a way to get there. I know what you are talking about I also have a Colorado. I guess the shortest way to Michigan is thru Canada from where you are.

Hi Andy, Yes, that was the first thing I thought of but as I said, the Colorado isn't big enough for the job. I have checked out a couple of car haulers and they can do it for much less than it would cost me if I have to rent a truck. Going through Canada might have been the best way to go but I understand you get a lot of flack from the Canadians when you want to bring a car into the country. Also, the guy I was taking with me doesn't have a passport or enhanced driver's license. Beamer

Way to go Stuart. Your "new" '48 Coupe looks real nice. Hope you get it home soon so you can start enjoying it. I've always liked 41-48's. Really enjoyed our 42 Sedan the 10-11 years we had it. I've been looking for a 41-48 Woodie for a year or so. No luck so far. As noted, congrats on your 48!!!!

Bill.

Nice looking car so I won't pick it apart. One word of warning though. The car, as you know, has a later 235 engine. The valve cover is from a 1955 or later and the oil filler cap must be replaced with the breathing type used from 1955 and up. The 1954 had the breathing slots in the valve cover. In 1955 they eleminated the slots and fresh filtered air came in theough the oil mesh in the oil filler cap.
A Colorado will pull the car fine with a dolley. I would keep it around 50 MPH as you will find it will go along fine at 70 MPH but that is too fast for safety. Don't go through Canada.
No need to disconnect the U joint, etc. as long as the transmission if full of gear oil.

Looks like you have a fine purchase there. If it is all driveable let your offsider drive the colorado and you drive the 48. Why waste the chance to enjoy it and put it on a trailer of any sort.

I thought I might suggest such a notion...But I was torn between saying "Just get in that sucker and drive", and the older more seemingly mature version of "Hey, it's an old car and who knows what could go wrong...? Kill yourself or worse...Kill somebody else...? Just because you didn't have the patience and common sense to really check the vehicle out before taking it out on the open road...? There are a lot of unknowns that could "play-out" in this scenario that he'd be fooling with here...He's probably very concerned with getting his new "baby" home, safe and sound in one piece, so he can really check it out with the calm and ease of it being in his own garage...But with all that said, I still have one more question I have to ask...? Why didn't you "Just drive that sucker home...?" Oh, you know what...? I just thought about the insurance factor, too.

Don't let the excitement of the moment cloud your common sense..Good luck getting it home, Kevin

I reviewed the bidding yesterday morning with U-haul and as it turns out, I could tow the car with my Colorado using a dolly. However, I would be at the maximum threshold for my 4000 pound hitch. I decided to opt for a safer plan and hired a car hauler. They can't guarantee a pick-up date as they have to find a driver willing to pick the car up. If they take too long doing that, I will have to reschedule a different availability date as I will be away for a week starting September 24th and no one would be here to accept the car. I have my fingers crossed that they will pick it up in the next few days. Beamer

The car weight of 3300 pounds + a 200 hundred for the dolley, all of which would be on the ground would sound safe to me.

beer2 Chevgene, Moot point now. I just received an email that their projected pick-up date is tomorrow with delivery by the 17th. It is only a days drive but perhaps the trucker has other pick-ups or deliveries from there to here. In an earlier post, you said you wouldn't pick the car apart as it did look nice. It is fine with me if you do want to pick it apart for me. Every little bit will help me make right those things I can. Plus, I can use all the info I can get, positive and negative, and there will certainly be no hard feelings. This applies to everyone who can help. Beamer

Besure to state that the key in the ignition switch MUST BE straight up and down to start the car. Perhaps the present owner culd stick a note on the shift knob.

Good looking coupe. I've trailered a 47 and my 48 with my 2002 Dakota crew cab. I would call it borderline. Uhaul said it was to small, but we worked around it. I wouldn't want to tow one with my old S-10, even tho my son and I towed a 63 4 door Impala with it once on a dolly. Not to smart on my part.
Speaking of radio. Just got mine back from the shop. Hope to get it installed in the next couple of days.

Thanks for the tip, Gene. Yes, the radio is supposed to work. I did notice in one of the photos that one of the preset buttons was out further than the others. I will have to check that when the gets here. As for the heater switches, I noticed the switches and asked the owner about them and he told me they were the front and rear heater and that both worked very well. I do have a couple of the correct toggle type switches but they are different colors of brown. As time goes by, I will put the correct and matching switches in the car. This car was picked from eight 1948 Chevy's at the Frankenmuth, MI, 100th Chevy Anniversary event last year, to represent 1948 in the parade. That is where the 1948 decals on the rear of the front fenders came from. I will probably remove those. Thanks for the tips, etc., and keep them coming. I will be posting on the 46 - 48 Forum in the future and in fact, have already done that once. By the way, the car is being picked up this morning and should be here within a few days (keeping my fingers crossed). Beamer

I suppose you meant to say, front and under the seat heater...Boy, that's a lotta heat...I suppose the front does the job of defrosting, if it's got the ducting...

About the "1948 Decals"...I have license plates that have 1947 stamped on them and I still get asked "What year is the car...?" lol

Yes, under the seat heater. Won't know about the defrosting situation until I see the car which, hopefully will be in the next day or two as it was picked up yesterday. I imagine it has defrosting being from Michigan. Beamer
