Thanks Bill... I've no idea what you did, but it worked! Now, if you click on the album owners name, the rest of his folders come up as well. He's got hundreds of really great photos of Southwestern Ontario back in the 1920's to 1960's. There are a couple of views of that D V8 including one with chains on the rear tires. And Wow! I just learned something! D-V8 seen here!

Dave Perry in Australia is restoring a D-5 V-8 and saw one of these visors on ebay. The seller would not sell or send internationally so I bought it and shipped it to Dave. I think he plans on putting it on his car. I am currently restoring a D-4 V-8 Chummy Roadster. As far as I know Dave and I are the only current V-8 restorations going on. Of course, there are several club members with completed cars or originals. Thanks for posting these photos. Ardie Overby

The Model D "EIGHT" Touring with the tire chains also has a neat after market top and 5 bow [varnish with no cloth wrapping] top arrangement with the top bows mounted on the exterior side of the top material instead of the bows mounted on the inside of the top. This makes it easier to have the side curtain designed to open when the doors are opened and still have the side curtains make a positive seal against the weather while driving down the road. Most owners tended to hide the top bows inside the top interior, while myself prefer showing off the natural wood and black iron of the top bows to the man standing at the curb, and hide the wooden bows from the inside passengers.
Did you mention you found a link to a photo showing the after market replacement side curtains for this same Model D5?
I couldn't find it?

Hi=The visor is after market. The front bumper is also after market. It is made by Lyon. And Ken points out the difference in the top as after market. Pretty cool old photo to look at the way a car would be used in the day! Ardie

I just looked again at the photos and noticed the head light lenses are also the hooded (all glass but with green hoods). These are also after market. I can't remember the name of these at this moment. Ardie

The lens are called McBeth and I have a set for my D5 V8 Tourer so it will have that eye lid look and being green at the top will match the original green colour of the V8 tourer body.
The car in the picture also has some aftermarket cowl lights.
Anyway back to work got a V8 to finish.

My 1918 D5 has a set of the green hooded head light lens. See color photo on page 31 of July 2011 G&D. They were sold by McBeth. My understand that back in 1917-18, some States required Anti Clare lens of an approve design and the stock Model D were not approved in at least California. They are a "Safety" ITEM. The side curtains appear to be a replace type with rectangular large windows while the stock curtains are the narrow Cathedrow type. Notice this replacement top has the 2 small porthole transfered from the rear curtain to the rear side curtains.
To call this D5 an 1920 model, it must have been sold after August 1, 1919.
My D5 has a 6 volt electric windshield wipper motor mounted on the wood frame.
Dave - you wrote you are working much on your D5 - Does this mean you will be able to drive it the last week of September on the Chev 4 Tour?

Love to take the Twin 4 on the Australian Chev 4 Tour but as the saying goes it has Too many moving parts like those six cylinder thingys. I will be very happy to have the D5 finished in time to celebrate the 100 years of the Chevrolet V8, 1st muscle car or how ever you want to promote it. Until then still some expensive outlays to overcome like leather for the trim and then paint etc so still a bit of work to do but at least I am well past 1/2 way with the restoration.
