I have two manuals that say "to disconnect the diaphragm push rod from the link, press the diaphragm upward to relieve the spring pressure, then turn the diaphragm to the right (clockwise?) until the push rod is disengaged, then remove the diaphragm assembly". Sounds easy but I must be doing something wrong because I can't get it to come apart. Anyone have some insight? Thanks ahead for any replies!

My 36 diaphragm rod was sloted and would hook on to the plunger. When pushed In and pressure was released on the plunger It would unhook by pushing the diaphragm In and canting the diaphragm, in a straight position, just enough to unhook. Clear as mud?

Richard,

That sounds exactly like what I am trying to do - I think. Did you turn the diaphragm clockwise?

It has been awhile, but I don't recall rotating the diaphragm.

With the later design the diaphram rod had a slot that the arm hooked into and was disconnected by pressing on the engine side of the diaphram so that the rod tilted away from the engine, no twisting.
