Make it look as close as you can to the way it was delivered to the initial owner. No dirt or grease buildup anywhere. No polishing compound or wax residue in the gaps or creases.

On average what would you say most vintage Chevrolets score on the points? 850+

There's a ton of information in the Judging Manual.
Log in to the MEMBERS area http://vcca.org/members/
then click on Resource Center.
Follow the links to the Judging area.

Bill Barker is right there is all the info you need in the judging books.

As a judge for only 6-7 years I'll share this with you. Minus any large glowing errors, problems, dents, rust etc. I'd say 90% of the issues I see {when judging} are basic.
Wrong color {Not Chevy}
Wrong Parts {Not Chevy/GM}
Poor Quality {paint, parts, chrome etc.}
Wrong interior fabrics/paints/colors, etc.
Wrong hub caps, trim, etc.

What I mean is common visuals that are easy to see such as under the hood. I have seen the wrong Spark plug wires, plugs, hoses, engine paint/color, hose clamps, screws, wiring, horns, battery, radiator Cap., Carb. Air Cleaner etc. Just basic stuff.

Take a look in the trunk like is there a spare, are wrong correct, any missing panels, are the floor mats good/original, etc. etc.

Take a look at the interior, are the fabrics/colors correct, right radio, floor mats, handles, knobs, accessories, switches etc.

Just look at your car with this though in mind, "Did it roll off the assembly line this way."

If in doubt ask questions here and or referee to the judging manuals and or your cars manuals. And join VCCA national & a local region. Then have other VCCA members go over the car before judgment day!!

Good Luck,

My advice is relative to the size of the show and competition.

If it is a small show and the competition is between a bunch of 37s and 38 and a single 41 then the following steps must be taken:

a. Wash the car*
b. Polish the paint
c. Polish the chrome
d. Blacken the tires and whiten the whitewalls
e. Whiskbroom out the sand from the mats
f. Clean the windows (all glasswork)
g. Give the Fulton an even more radical rake
h. Clean and detail the engine
i. Make sure the engine will crank

* For a 41 to be highly competitive in the above field of entrants (37&8s), this will be the only step required. Agrin wave

Charlie -- Did you forget to mention the rollback to bring the '41 onto the show field? flush

Or, if you'd rather, I'd be happy to give you a tow with my '30! carbana

Seriously, hope you'll make it to Greenwood, SC this weekend for the VCCA Regional Meet. The weather looks great and the meet should be really fun.

All the Best, Chip
