Hi, I am wanting to repair the speedometer from my 1927 Chev truck. The shaft that carries the drive from the main input shaft across to the odometer section of the speedo is worn and needs replacing. Is it possible to buy replacement parts for these instruments or if not what do people do to solve the problem please? I would appreciate your advice, thanks John M

Don't know of a source of parts other than buying another speedometer and using the best parts to build one. Can always get a shaft made. If you know a retired machinist or good puttzer with a lathe the cost to duplicate may be very reasonable.

How close are the '28,'29 speedos to the '27? We find the dash units at local swap meets all the time for $10 US. Like the other fellow from Aus said in his blog - takes two or three to make a good one. I think the '30 was the same just had a different outer ring on it where it went into the dash. Round instead of oval.

Hi Beach Bum,

The inner working parts from 26 to at least 29 are interchangeable. The main difference is the face plate or as you say outer ring on 26's are round, the later are oval.

Cheers

Ray

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great"

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

Portland Swap Meet is coming up. If JohnM needs us to look for a couple to ship down to him for parts let the Columbia River Region know.
