the previous owner told me my 1947 1/2 ton was owned by a city in California and was used as a fire chiefs truck. How can I check the validity of this story?

There are 2 holes in the roof where a light or siren may have been mounted at one time and there is red paint behind the black repainted firewall.

currently the truck is green, but like I said through the repaint firewall where the paint is coming off or where a rubber grommet was I can see red. No idea what town or city from California. I am hoping to find out if anyone knows if I can track the vin through records of vehicles owned by fire departments in the past. Probally a dead end but itz a road I have not gone down yet and I am willing to go if needed.

In the town of Angels Camp in Calaveras County , California , there was a '47 1/2 ton in the fire dept. Of course it wasn't in service...by the late '70's it was repainted and put on display... By the '90's it disappeared . I still have friends in that town and could ask about it...

Supposedly the previous owners father was the second owner and he used the truck for his landscaping business. The last plates on the truck were black and yellow with a 1975 tag.

Sounds like that eliminates Angels Camp...guessing it would have been fairly common for a Fire Station to have a pick-up about...
