Trying to determine whether 1948 Chev car had Electrolock armored cable running from ignition switch to coil.
My 48 Fleetmaster 2dr coupe has 6" of cable remnant at ignition switch. A previous owner cut off the rest of the cable. Regular insulated wire, spliced to end of remnant, runs to coil. To further confuse, it appears that my ignition switch may not be the one originally installed in my car. (The ignition switch mounting bracket is not holding the switch, but has been bent away from hole in dash; the perimeter of switch housing has been ground down to make it fit through hole in dash; and a screw-on bezel secures it to the dash.)
I've found some info on web, in more than one place, stating that Delco D1407 (1116551) ignition switch, which has no provision for Electrolock cable, is for 1948 Chev.
Is it possible that Electrolock was eliminated during 1948 model-year production?
