On the 54 Hydra-Matic there is a 4 3/8" rubber seal that goes in the tranny tail housing, then there is a 6 bolt hole seat.
The seat has a tab or is continuous steel between two bolt holes on one end of the seat. Is this tabbed end installed on the top of the tranny tail housing or on the bottom of the tranny tail housing. The ball collar does not have this tabbed end and is stamped out with space in between each of the 6 bolt holes. What would be the reason for the seat to be stamped different than the ball collar and if installed improperly would that make the rubber seal leak.
Below is a link to passenger car powerglide that has same config.

Does the tabbed end of the ball seat go on the bottom of the rear tail housing or on the top.

Thanks
