The '41 Special Deluxe Coupe I just bought seems to need a synchronizer on 2nd gear. I'm unable to shift from 3rd to 2nd without a grind. What years of transmissions would mate up to the '48 or '49 Canadian 216 engine that is in it? I'm going to a swap meet in a few weeks, and I might get lucky and find a transmission. That way I could build it, and just swap out this winter.
Thanks,
Sid

If you practiced double-clutching it would solve your problem. And actually it is kinda fun. Sit high in the seat and dream of guiding an 18-wheeler down the concrete strip.

I suppose you have already answered my question......the vacuum shift assembly has been removed?

Try it, you may like it.

No Ray, the vacuum shift is still functional. Maybe I just don't know how to shift with it. I've tried double clutching to go from 3rd to second, but it still grinds.

Delay your shift a couple more seconds to allow the gears to get closer to equal speeds.

As Ray suggested delay the shifting into gear but also start the complete shift at a lower engine rev. Double clutching is an art, I also have changed gears without using the clutch at all with both synchro and non synchro. At 1 stage my daily driver had broken clutch linkage and I kept driving it while I waited for parts and time to repair, was interesting at traffic lights.

Im sure the 41-48 trans are all the same, a 40 is the same too but the vac-assist is on the tork tube bracket.

The 49-52 trans are longer than the 41-48 so it wont just drop in.

But then again I dont if the any diffrence with yours being a Canadian trans.
