A few of us are trying to find out how many '59 Full Size Fuel Injected Chevys were produced. Wondering if anyone here has any production figures on them?

Bill, I think this is one of those issues that has had a lot of numbers bandied around but I don't think the number is known for sure. No Chevy documents have surfaced yet to support any number so all the numbers that are out there are guesses, rumors, wishfull thinking, marketing, etc. (so far)

Super Chevy magazine, Feb 2011 issue, has an article about a "faux" Fuel Injected 59 Impala convertible. The article contains two production figure references.

The first one --- "Passenger car production declined to about 140 fuelies for '59, the last year it was offered in a full-size model."

The second one --- "supposedly fewer than 1000 full-size fuelies were made in the three years of production."

I doubt the exact number will ever be known. Nonetheless, an interesting question.

Bill.

At our dealership, which was quite large, we sold one F.I. car in 1959. It was a black 4 speed 290 H.P. convertible.
By 1959 the larger displacemetn high performance 348 was more sought after for the heavy beast of a car.

Gene, that kind of answers my next question. I was wondering what the reason was why they stopped in '59?

I'm wondering why the '58 got little acknowledgement, so it seems anyway. The '57 is widely known, the '59 has gain a lot of popularity, especially lately, but little is said about the '58??

'58s will have their day in the sunshine once the crowd moves in that direction. As with anything people love to "jump on the bandwagon" when the music begins to play. If we were lemmings, none of us would be here today. That is after 700 '59 Full Size Chevy fuelie cars have been cloned and everyone begins to doubt the real legit ones. With enough money to be "made" the crooks will find a way to get their "share"!

Just look at the prices they are getting for 1958 Impala coupes and convertibles. They are right up there with the best of them. It took 1958's and 1959's a long time to gain a following and by that time many had left this earth.
Also models that were popular as a "kid's car" when new or used are always in higher demand as so many want a car like the one they had during their youth. Its hard t beat a 1955, 1956, or 1957 as they were the cars all the kids wanted years ago.

No doubt about the fact the market drives the price.

Some of us, who'd still like to buy a car or two, wish "the market" had more brains.

On the other hand, it makes it fun when you're selling.....
