And.......I might also add here. The way it works for me is really for SAFETY PURPOSES. Having that double wide MAIN PART, in the summer I have the lift itself in her NORMAL position (in and out, in and out, ect). H O W E V E R.....when in the winter time and the "entrance apron" (let alone the back lane itself) may or may not have a sheet of ice on it. It is way easier AND safer to back my van under my 63 when the lift itself is PERPENDICULAR (parallel) to the back lane itself. This gives you a heck of a lot more room should you happen to slide over when backing in (driving in) to your garage. In other words.....MY ENTRANCE SKIRT IS NOT HEATED and there is no need for it to be heated. It did cross my mind when I had my plans drawn up. .......The "SLOPE OUT" of the garage is 3% by the way. The skirt is much greater then that. Mmmmmmm........MORE TO THINK ABOUT.

Four is better'n two! If you have four and don't like them just sell two of them! Ha!
Really I want my cars sitting on their four wheels even if they are up in the air! I have a jack thingiee if I need to raise a wheel or two or three or four.

Really to each his own choice......

With the ramp style 4 post lifts there is a very convenient bench to put tools and parts on, the 2 post types dont have this facility.

With a piece of plywood across the 2 ramps it also works great for working on the lawn mower no more bending over. yay

Seems to me that if you are gonna have four posts and two ramps a-getting in the way, not much actual work is going to be done. Maybe change the erl.

So, except for storage issues, it may be more economical to just dig a pit to straddle (the car) over. One could use the piece of plywood (suggested earlier) to put one's tools on so's all them - like jewelry costing Snap-on tools - don't get no dirt on um. Know what I mean? Now where did I put my shovel?

Lawn mower? Not a problem. Simply get a couple of 2x6s and lay them cross ways. Drive that there old JD right up there, change those belts and blades.

Oh, For those of you have so many Chevrolets that you gotta stack-um. It still seems that two post w/arms would serve just as well or better than the 4 post ramp models. Call me stupid, but I still don't get it.

BTW: Please no comments like, "Well, you said it all in that last comment, Charlie." You know.

I pull the drive on ramps off the tread-ways before I raise the car.
Well anyway it wasn't me that said it!

maybe someone could draw you a picture! When you get the car up on the lift you can position it at any height that is convenient to work. Like I said I use an office computer chair on casters and roll anywhere I need to be, under the car, to either side , jack up a wheel to do bearing or brake jobs, exhaust work, whatever.....

The ramps aren't a problem. I have used the two post lifts and actually the two centered posts and the frame lift arms are apt to be in the way as much as the 4 posts which are on the ends of the car. The suspension is hanging sown at an unusual position to do any suspension work and the car is not as stable on two posts, it is a balanceing act....In fact the two tread-ways are good places to lay your tools as you work on the car!

I am not too smart (I only have a 28, a 51, a 53 and a 68, a 95, and a 2005 Chevrolets, Not even one 1941!)

And it only took me 15 minutes to know that I had the right lift!

MrMack, I just knew you couldn't resist that there "stupid" part. Highligthing in red so it will be easily noticed by everyone. Dang!

Anyhow, P.K. and MrMack, I acquiesce to better knowledge. I've back-filled the start of the pit and put the shovel away. And in the future, if I live long enough, I'll strongly consider a 4-poster.

Thanks for the enligthenment,
Charlie

I too had been thinking of getting a lift, you guys got me so comfused (which is easy to do) I don't know which way to go I
was leaning toward the two post I thought it would be easier
to get to everything like brakes, mufflers etc. but now I'm not sure.

The one thing with a two post lift is I THINK that the post has to be bolted to the concrete and where it is going to be bolted down has to be a certain thickness so a four to six inch floor may not be thick enough. But like I said not 100% sure just something to think about. That is why I got the four post. I had a chance to buy an used four post but it was not a stand along unit so I passed on it.
