In the early days the same system was used at The Arlington Assembley plant. This was the last operation performed on all vehicles at the end of the shipping line. The first two females hired to work on the assembley line were assigned to this operation.

Last night I received another great couple of photos from Australia. Brian (lachlan31 on Chat) had the other photos that we talked about in the Cowra pictures. First is a 1924 Touring that was pulled out of the same showroom floor for a local parade. It's a bit hard to see the car under all of those decorations, but I thought the plates above the running board looked like a fairly unique piece.

The other photo is a train load of McCormick Deering tractors arriving in Cowra. The dealer had all of the local farmers come pick them up at the same time, and organized a parade much like the Chevrolet parades pictured earlier. Brian thinks this was likely right after the war, hence the big order. I've added this pic to our "Chevys Only" thread just because it related to the earlier pictures Jim sent... and it's pretty cool! Now we'll get back to the Chevys!

Great shots, Bruce. Thanks for sharing these! Here's a few more fat fendered Chevy pictures from the 40's for the good of the order :)

Great pictures, Daryl... keep 'em coming!

Here's the other tractor picture, with a nice GM truck at the front of the parade.

I believe that McCormick Deering became Farmall and then Farmall became International Harvester. Don't know what mergers/buyouts if any occured.

I know alot of you have looked at my avatar wondering what that is. That's my 1931 sedan delivery as it was in Manson Washington a few years back. These are a couple of pictures that the family sent me of the car in the early 30s. The girl in the pictures was born in 1927....Joe

The car was parked sometime between 1941 & 1945. I've managed to find everything for the car except one garnish. After Glen Rarick & I dug it up & brought it home the property owner used a metal detector & sent another 3 or 4 boxes full of parts for the car. I purchased a wood kit from Rodman & a drivetrain from a street rodder. It's getting there but I'm going to do my 33 Standard for the show in 3 years. So yes it is saved & part way to restoration. It is one of only 2 known at the moment.
Pat has done an amazing job with that car. He's a true insperation to this hobby...Joe

Thanks Joe... We're going to have to see a current photo sometime.

Todays entry is another from my parent's photo album. The first is my Grandpa's brand new 1951. That's my Dad at 8yrs old. I would assume that Grandpa was washing the Chevy, and took the picture. My Grandpa drove the car to work at Gorries Chevrolet in Toronto until 1955, and then City Buick until his retirement in 1963. In '63 he bought a new Acadian (The Canadian Pontiac version of the Chevy II) and gave the car to Dad to drive to university. Dad drove it until the floors fell out of it, then sold it. He still had my Uncle Nick's '51 and bought himself a new Valiant. The second picture is Grandpa's '51 at their cottage near Little Britain, Ontario. It would likely be either 1957 or 1959 going by the license plate colour.

Yes, I remember that is the headlight tool. They used it so you could get your state inspection sticker. First low beam and then high beam so you would not blind the car coming toward you in the other lane.

And it looks to me that a lady this fancy should be getting into the shiny Buick parked ahead, not the 1950 Fleetline!
