A '58 did come with 14" wheels. You may have a problem with the offset of the wheel center. The deeper offsets cause problems with steering gear. Shallow offsets can cause problems with inner fender interference.

do you know what the offset or backspacing is supposed to be? I tried taking a 14" wheel off of a skylark and it had the same clearance/rubbing problem. So much so that I couldn't even turn the wheel. I need some help understanding what the problem is and how to fix it...i'm at my wits end! crazy

Hi Rudman,

As mentioned the '58 used a 14" rim.
I think you will find that the 14" rims that were on your '58 are incorrect for the model year.

Most likely off a much newer GM vehicle and those 14" rims will interfere with the front suspension on the '58
