Here's some status on actions BEHIND THE SCENES that have been going on to support Chat. hood

SITUATION:
I have had ongoing problems with our email service ever since we moved to the new server (in October 2009). While everything else seems to be working okay now, the email service has been "flaky" at best.

ACTION:
So for the past two weeks I've been working on how to solve this ONCE and for ALL.

A tip from another developer (on a different forum) got me started looking in a completely different solution.

SOLUTION:
In short, what I did was -- stopped all email service on Chat, re-pointed all email references to GOOGLE, created a new "domain" email in Google, and set it up to process all VCCA and Chat emails.

The good news is that it now appears to be working flawlessly. You should be able to get all emails now sent by Chat... with the strength and stability of Google.

And hopefully, I can now convince the President (VCCA, of course) to once again use his president@vcca.org email address.

Another rough three weeks but with a successful conclusion that should last for a long time. Now on to other tasks.

Does this mean the email thing wasn't working the last couple of weeks?? I think it wasn't working cuz I sent a couple of emails and I didn't hear back.

Altho I guess you replied to the one I sent you.

Hmmmm, well - was it working the last couple of wks???

It wasn't totally NOT working, but I'd say that probably 75% of the emails didn't get processed... Sometimes they backed up in a queue and then would all be sent 3 or 4 days later... but I'm sure that NOT ALL emails were sent that should have been. This "partial" failure is always harder to diagnose than a full breakdown... just like solving a problem with a car engine.

But now, I ask you to test the living-heck out of it. The JYD has helped me test it over the past week (as I changed different configurations) and we both think that it's worked good now since late Thursday night. What do you think?

As noted in my PM back to you, I got your PM just fine. But, as also noted, I did not recv an email 'alerting' me to the fact that I had a PM.

Sorry, but contrary to what you and Skippy were feeling after some testing, the acompanying email "alert" didn't work that time. ....

Update:

Bill Barker suggested I check to be sure the email feature was enabled in "my stuff." To my embarrassment, it wasn't. It is now. Sorry for any "confusion" etc.

It seems all should now be OK....

Correct-a-mun-do Skippy. Heck, I didn't even know there was such a setting. Good thing Bill B suggested I check to be sure the email 'notification' thing was set properly....
