I read this before but cannot bring up the post in a search. Is the outside sunvisor a solid piece on the '49 and the '50 has a metal strip in the middle? Interesting thing happened today. Stopped at my machanic [30 years my jr.] to day to look this up in the book and mentioned it to him. He said,"I sure don't know" but his younger helper said "that's right". I said, "How the heck do you know?" He smiled and said,"That's the only part remaining in his Uncle's garage from his Uncle's '49". He also said he would get a price on it for me. Maybe I got lucky because the only ones I ran across have the metal down the middle.

The 1949 visor is in two pieces and it bolts together in the center. The "seam" is covered with a chrome moulding. There is no other chrome trim on a 1949 visor. It mounts to the rain gutter with three screws. The screws (machine screw thread) thread into a thick plate that fits inside of the gutter. The 1950-52 visor is the same EXCEPT it has a wide chrome band on the front edge.
The Pontiac visor is a one piece job and has a chrome band running around the entire visor - but none in the center.
The 1949 visor is rather palin looking. Quite a number of 1949-1952 Chevrolets have the Pontiac visor .....or a Fulton visor.

Thanks Gene. I'll see what he has and try and post a picture. I was also at a junk yard where the owner was putting a '54 grill into a '49 and that one looked like the visor was one piece. I'll try and post that picture at the same time along with a picture of some other visors he had hanging in the shop. I think those he wanted $100 a piece.

That's what I thought. When I go back I'm gonna see if he has some fender skirts. I believe the '49 is a 1 year deal on the fender skirts, correct? On ebay they always list them '49-'50.

Gene, didn't you say that the visors were't available until 53? Was that just for trucks? I bought a visor (from Brothers? - very pricey - can't do that again) for my '49 Chevy 4400, but haven't installed it because I believed that a '49 4400 shouldn't have a visor. Is that right?

Grandad's (supposed) '52 half-ton had a visor. But, he may have been mistaken about the model year or the visor may not have been original... But I grew up with that truck and it was always on it.

GM did not offer an outside visor as an accessory for the Advance Design style trucks until 1953 { GM part #986877 }.

There were many aftermarket visors made to fit the '47-'53 trucks but, non of them were original GM items.
