Is there an easy way to tell if a brake fluid is regular dot 3 or is silicone? Mea culpa but I did not record what is in different cars.

Test for Dot 3 - put some on a painted surface (not on the car)....if it blisters the paint its Dot 3.

Put a drop in a container of water. If it dissolves it is Dot 3. If Dot 5 it will not!
