Are there any guys from the west that are going take their cars to Flint? I am thinking about it and would like to travel with others if that is at all possible. I am located on the central coast of Calif and would ether go through Saltlake or go hwy 40 through Colo. Its never to soon to plan. You can send me a PM if you want to contact me. :vcca:

On a trailer probably. That is a long haul to drive a 31 Chevy. I looked it up on Mapquest and it is close to 2700 miles from my place. I just got back from a concours in Palo ALto, Ca and that was 230 miles. That alone took long enough. If I drove and did about 250 miles per day that would be close to eleven days one way. I don't think so!!!

I know a dude that would probably drive his '31 coupe that far and at 55 miles per hour too. bigl bigl

I agree with you Sal, Flint is way too far to drive a car that old unless, of course, you are an Ice Road Trucker!

You bet Skip. I would fill up my passport on one trip if I drove. There is no reason to put that amount of mileage on the car and take that much time to get there and back. It is even a lot just to trailer it their. Only time will tell. beer2 beermugs

Yes, trailering that far is a little stressful as well. Even at that you are looking at three days at least to get there and three days to get back. That's six days of driving time without counting the time spent in Flint. It is going to be a fun meet though....once you get rested up from all of the driving. bigl bigl

Sal,

A group of us in the Orange County Region are talking about driving our cars to Flint. It looks like there might be at least five cars driving so far. We will see if that number holds up as we get closer. So far, it looks like the cars would be as follows:

'63 Impala
'64 Chevelle
'64 Impala
'65 Impala
'70 Nova

One of the guys might trailer his car so that way if anyone breaks down, we can unload his car and drive it and trailer the disabled car.

As we get closer to the date, we can touch bases, you might be bale to time your tirp to meet up with us and all go together.

Lets keep in touch.

I recall that Rita and Al drove a 1930 Coupe from Cleveland, Ohio to the Anniversary Meet in California. They drive everywhere in that car and have for many years. They take turns driving 60 minutes then changing drivers. I have never heard of them breaking down.

Rita and Al drive that '30 Coupe everywhere. They take turns as related in the previous post. Drive 35 mph and total ~270 miles per day. Hopefully they will be able to attend the Flint meet as they are a wonderful couple.

You are correct Chipper. You will not find a nicer couple anywhere. I've been told their driving is for 60 mintes and not about an hour. They are very exact in all they do. We get to see them every year on the Eastern Early Six Cylinder Tour.

I'm planning to trailer my '30 Phaeton from Western NC. Anybody else from this area planning the same?

All the Best, Chip.

Once again Kari and I will thank Steve and Elyse for the wonderful experience driving from Lebanon to Montrose and Grand Junction in 2006. Steve's 32, leading the small group, cruising around 55 - 60 miles in quite hot weather for hours. No problems to mention, and a lot of other drivers on the Hw. 40? waiving and honking.

There are more and more VCCA members planning to drive to the VCCA's 50th Anniversary Meet in Flint, Michigan in July of 2011. I have received a number of emails asking for information on our 50th anniversary. If you organize a driving trip TO or from the meet in Flint, remember to consider requesting Passport Miles for your organized tour. Just ask your area director for details.

I hope to see all of you on July 17th, 2011.

ps. I will be the one in a 1966 Chevelle Malibu convertible.

If I attend I will be driving my 37 p/u there,it has been changed a little and has taller gears and a 5 speed behind the 235 and will handle the highways but will most likely go the back roads to see the sights. I have to drive it as I have no trailer.

Will there be VCCA members driving from TEXAS to Flint Michigan for the VCCA 50th anniversary?.... probably not over 200 cars, trailers and trucks!
