The 29-36 tour is well underway in Moab UT. 21 cars made the 85 mile tour today. Todays tour was the same as the 4-cylinder tour held here several years ago. We have cleaned up the cars and waiting for the Pizza feed tonight.

Tomorrow we take a short tour through the Arches.

Weather is great, hot days--cool nights, my kind of tours.

Ray,
Are Cheap Sweat , Pushrod and Chevy Bill and all their crew out there on the Early 6-cyl tour with you?

I am just checking on their where-abouts, and hopeing they weren't swept out to sea in the gulf by IKE.

That area is really a nice place to hold a tour. My #1 right hand seat cover and I always stayed a night or two in Moab and we did some sight seeing, and R&R when I was traveling around the Rockies doing audits in August before I retired. When we left Moab we would go to Vernal, then up thru the Flameing Gorge on our way to do audits in Rock Springs, Casper and Cheyenne. It was a rough and tuff job, but someone had to do it.

The trip through the Arches was worth the effort. A lot of construction that limited the parking.

One third of the total attending are RV drivers. This evening they all pooled their eats and had a ball in the RV Park.

Next on the list is to the West and Dead Horse Point.

More tomorrow.

Sure wish I would have blown up the water wings. Treading water for days on end is not fun.

Actually all the touring Texans came through relatively unscathed. We still don't have power (they tell us it may be three more weeks) but homes came thought ok. Those on the West side of Houston have power and AC and their refigerators don't stink. Oh well, it could sure have been worse if IKE had not take the jog to the northeast. If it had moved down the coast ~30 miles I would be looking for another home.

Today was a winner, some clouds and a cool breeze. The driving today was a bit over 110 miles. Eating a very good box lunch at a picknick table overlooking an amazing landscape. Sad story at the Dead Horse Point.

Tomorrow will be a short run and picture taking.

Just like kids playing with blocks, that is the description of lining up the cars for the official photograph. Our site for the picture was occupied by two very large coaches when we arrived. After a new site was selected it was on to the pictures.

After a quick lunch it was time for the mini swap meet.

At 2:00PM we plan to meet and select the site for next year.

The Tour terminates tonight after we have taken a long boat ride up the canyon. This is a very exciting trip. We eat at a great buffet at the departure site.

Later we load up in two(1) special boats and start up the canyon. As we travel our guide describes the scenery on either side of the canyon. When we reach the turning point, we will kill some time till it is dark. Then we head back down the canyon with descriptions of the various forms on the canyon wall. FOLLOWING ON A ROAD THAT FOLLOWS THE RIVER IS A CONVERTED MILITARY SEARCH LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATES THE HIGH POINTS AS POINTED OUT BY OUR GUIDE.

The 4-cylinder tour several years ago laid the groundwork for this tour. In fact each day was the same. And YES!, we do have some of the same people that attended that tour.

It will be misty eye time tonight when we return to the landing. Tomorrow, the attendees will depart in different directions, some home, and some on extended journeys, for further adventures. (Me and my co-pilot will continue on East for visitation and sights.)

Already looking forward to the next Vintage Chevrolet led tour.

I've definitely got to pay more attention to my Generator publications. My wife and I have been in Moab since Monday cycling and relaxing. About two days ago I saw a black '31 cabriolet identical to mine (it's back in Colorado in the garage) on Moab's Main street and thought "that's odd".

Then today we're cycling on the scenic byway along the Colorado river back to the Potash factory, and coming out of the canyon is a long line of early 30's chevs, including even more '31 cabriolets. So I checked the VCCA web page and learned these folks have been here since Monday, the day we arrived, so I really am feeling quit stupid since I would have loved to have checked out the vehicles.

I see you're doing the River trip tonight, that will be great fun, we've done it several times in the past.

Is the group staying at one spot? I might get time to check out the vehicles Friday A.M. before everyone takes off.

I need to make a change to this statement. Since we were there with the 4-cylinder cars some 11 years ago they have changed the light truck. It is now a large truck that has a 57 KW generator and the lights are now "state of the art". They can now be converged, spread or split into individual lights.

After my second ride in the boats I have a question I can't answer. During the float down the river the pilot turns the boat so you are always facing the point of interest. My problem is how does he know where he is going during the long stretches of blackout, no lights anywhere?

All the reports I have heard about this tour say it was terrific! And the weather was great. The Davises from Golden, Colorado really enjoyed themselves. They were shopping at a Colorado Mills book store several days later and came across an Australian couple that they had met on the tour. Small world!
