The 32nd Annual Middle West Meet in Stillwater, Oklahoma will be a great event. Judging on Wednesday, tours on Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday we tour to Pawnee, Oklahoma and visit the HQ for the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show from 100 years ago. We also visit storage buildings full of working antique farm tractor steam engines. On Thursday we tour to Guthrie, Oklahoma. Main Street in Guthrie looks much like it did 100 years ago.

Gasoline cost - one year ago the national average was $2.82, this week $3.50. If you drive round trip to this event 2,000 miles @ 15 mpg. It will only cost you $100 more then a year ago.

Both tours will qualifiy for a VCCA PASSPORT stamp. Remember to bring your passport. If you do not have one, mail a photo of your car to Dave Cavagnaro and get a PASSPORT. Dave's contact information is listed in the Board of Directors section of the G&D.

Fuel Prices are not effecting attendance.

10 couples have registered from Wisconsin. The only other state that has 10 or more is Oklahoma. Wisconsin is about as far away as you can come to attend the Middle West Meet. Thank you Wisconsin members for your support.

This will be the first time in history that more then one couple from Oklahoma has attended a VCCA Regional Meet.

The 32nd Middle West Meet in Stillwater, OK is off and running. About 90 persons are participating with 17 cars being judged and 12 display only. Numbers are down a little, but we know fuel prices and weather are having an effect (weather is good here after a little morning rain).
We are doing an extra unofficial tour of about 60 miles tomorrow (Tuesday), judging and swap meet Wednesday and the plaque tour Thursday of about 70 miles followed by the banquet.
Wish us luck (does someone in the immediate area have a starter for a 1950 Chevy?)

Isn't 29 vehicles rather low for a Middle West Meet? I believe the ones I have attended were much larger. I have been partieipating on more tours and less meets. Are tours lowering attendance at meets?

I think $4.00+ a gallon has had an effect on a lot of participation. We were just at the Eastern Meet/Tour for 6 days and it was an easy $1500-$2000 week between everything. $500 of that was gasoline or the tow vehicle to get there and back and for 600 miles of touring, throw in another $650 for the hotel. Members might be making decisions as to what they are able to afford to do and be forced to cut back. I know I like to take in two VCCA events and two AACA events a year, I cut back from the AACA events this year due to the cost, and I do not live on a fixed income which makes it a little easier for me. I think attendance will become more "selective" as time goes on with our membership, and attendance will be lower in all areas of participation

I agree! Great job! Weather was warm and mostly dry. The opportunity to make new friends was great.
Some very fine cars and trucks too!

How many 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932 Chevrolets were on the judging field?

There were only two 1932 models and none in the other year models you listed. One was a 32 Confederate 2 door sedan and the other a Confederate 5 passenger coupe.

In addition to the 2 '32s that were on the field for judging (2 door Sedan and 5 passenger Coupe), there was '32 Cabriolet, a '30 4 door Sedan and a '30 Firetruck for Display Only on the field.

Guys, I am glad to hear that the MiddleWest Meet was a success. The numbers are certainly down. I think we need to look at the future of what a "Meet" is. I don't feel that many of our members can afford the time or the money to be at a meet for 5 days anymore. Let's look at other options?

Why were there "Display Only" cars at this meet? They should have been CDPC entrants don't you agree?

Probably one reason for display only is that some do not want to have their vehicle tied up all day on the judging field. If they leave before they are released they have nothing to loose.

It may be that in time once more members better understand and/or get more comfortable with the CDPC concept there will be more participants.
I had my '37 entered in that class and afterwards wished I'd gone thru the more formal judging. It was our first VCCA meet and I wasn't certain what to expect and somewhat leery of the process. I now would not hesitate to try for a junior oval.
I think I agree though that more of the cars/trucks there could have been entered in the CDPC class.

Displaying a non-Judged car and a non-CDPC car should be encouraged, not discouraged.

In response to the comment "why display only instead of CDPC".
There were CDPC entrants. It is up to the VCCA member, if they want to display only - that is their perrogative.

In response to Display only so they can leave the judging field. I saw no attempts to leave the judging field for display only cars. I do not think that played into the decision to display only.

My disappointment is that we did not allow members to display 25 year old cars and newer on the Judging field. I accept the concept that they cannot be judged or get a CDPC certificate. But I think we could get a little more member participation if they could just display their cars.

As far as shortening the Middle West Meet - That should solely be up to those that support that meet year end and year out. In reality this meet was only 3 days, not 5 days. Field Entrance check was on Tuesday, Judging on Wednesday and the awards banquet Thursday night.

We need to keep in mind that there are rules and that not every Chevrolet that shows up will get a CDPC. Remember that the vehicle must not fail at anything on the Field Entrance Check to be eligible, so we never know why someone decide not to particpate in the CDPC.....but AT LEAST THEY PARTICIPATED!
