My 58's fuel gage goes to full when the key is on. New tank, sending unit installed. Wire to sender shows continuity. Yet when I ground the terminal to the sender nothing happens. Gage stays on full all the time. Any ideas?? The tank is empty at this time.The gage returns to empty with the key off. Thanks for any help!

First things first, WELCOME ABOARD AND WE ARE GLAD TO HAVE YOU. I think you will find we are a good group. In reference to the fuel gage. The first thing that comes to mind is that the tank itself is not grounded to the frame. I would run a short ground strap from one of the screws that mount the sending unit to the closest spot on the body/frame and check the results. I did a customers 1958 some time ago, and had many problems until I did the extra grounding. If you still have problems, bring it on back here.

Thanks,I'll give that a try. Just curious as to why the gage didn't go towards empty when I grounded the sending unit circuit.Maybe I'm missing something here.Could I have damaged the gage when I did this? Just getting ready to put it on the road.
