Chevrolet used some 3837xxx numbers in 1955. The part numbers were rapidly being replace with later numbers after that. I have looked at 1954 and 1957 books (including history in 1957) and find no such casting number....could it be a Canadian head?

Come on now and admit it. Surley you have drained the oil out of your engine for an oil change, forgot to replace the plug and cycled four quarts of oil through the engine. Hope the drain container was still in place.

Hate to mention the obvious but I Think you need to remember not to push the brake pedal with any of the brake drums off. If you do the brake cylinder will be forced open on the wheel missing the drum leaking a lot of brake fluid out!!! What a mess

That is NOT a dumb question.

Raise the floormat on the drivers side. You should find a large rubber plug in the floor. Remove the plug and you will be looking at the top of the master cylinder. This is where you would add fl

Cleon,
Have not found the number yet but the number suggests a 261 or 292 head. What is the casting date? Will continue to look.

The rod and main bearings are adjusted by removing shims. They are between the cap and the rod (or block). The proper way to adjust the rod bearings on a 1937 is to remove shims untill the rod can not be tapped (with a small hammer) back and forth (e
